Cable Handling Equipment

ETA design and build complete systems to control and monitor the load and lay of submarine cables.

The cable engine control systems can be readily interfaced with other vessel systems as required.

Both hydraulic and electrical engines can be supplied.

ETA equipment supplied to date includes:

4 pair LCE
A 4 wheel pair linear cable engine (LCE) suitable for laying and maintenance operations. Hydraulically powered with an integral power pack.
Power Cable Quadrant

A electrically powered quadrant with one wheel pair and 4 other driven lower wheels for the transportation of power cable.
Telecom Cable Quadrant

A electrically powered quadrant with one wheel pair for the transportation of telecoms cable.
Saddleback

A saddleback dynamometer for measuring outboard cable tension, can be supplied with a cable counter for cable distance and speed measurement.
Running Line Monitor

A three-wheeled device of steel construction with EN24T wheels to monitor tow wire tension.

The top wheel is fitted with a loadcell giving a 4-20mA output. Speed and distance measurement is via a rotary encoder (push-pull quadrature output).
