Cromer Offshore Wind Farm

Norfolk Offshore Wind Ltd (NOW) are planning the 30 turbine Cromer offshore wind farm some 7km off the North Norfolk coast. ETA are providing project engineering support to NOW during the development. Key tasks include cable risk assessment and production of detail specifications for the marine cabling of the farm.

Cable risk assessment

A quantitative risk assessment (QRA) was provided dealing with all of the risks relating to the installation and operation of subsea power cables for energy transfer within the offshore wind farm, and from wind farm to shore.

  • Power cable installation and protection strategies
  • Marine geology, suitable burial processes
  • Cable fault mechanisms and history
  • Fishing and shipping patterns in the area
  • Marine environmental risks including coastal processes

Tender specifications

A detailed specification was compiled to cover the installation of the marine cables. The documentation was produced in a modular manner to comply with EU tender guidelines and NOW's format for the tender package.
