Huizhou Composite Power Cable Installation

ETA were contracted by S.B. Submarine Systems Co. Ltd. (SBSS) to provide project engineering support services for the installation of Composite Power Cable between the HZ19-2 to HZ19-3 (7.0 km) platforms and the HZ32-2 to HZ19-3 (24.4 km) platforms for the Huizhou development project.

This support was for design of the vessel spread, procedures including lay analysis and operational support for the J-tube pull-ins.

The lay vessel Fu Lai was heavily modified for this project. ETA's responsibility was to design the cable lay spread which included the design of the gantry, tank cone, coiling arm, cable path ways and overboarding chute. All items were constructed and mobilised onto the vessel locally to the work site.

ETA performed the cable lay analysis using OrcaFlex and developed the cable lay procedures. Of particular note were the tight constraints placed on the J-tube and I-tube pull-ins.

Prior to the installation ETA provided a project engineer at the worksite to source the equipment necessary for the pull-ins and to ensure that the platforms were prepared for the operations. During this period he also oversaw the cable transfer onto the lay vessel. The project engineer was then responsible for the pull-ins during the installation of the cables.
